For the good of the horse since 1959
Welcome to Umesläp! We have designed and manufactured trailers adapted to Scandinavian conditions since 1959. All our trailers and horse trucks have been built since the beginning in our factory in Bygdsiljum, located in Västerbotten in the north of Sweden.
Our experience is your security
With over 60 years of experience behind us, we have a clear picture of what customers expect from horse transport. At the same time, we are constantly working to further develop our trailers and trucks.
Umesläp's "family" also includes around 30 authorized service workshops around the country. This network of service workshops, as well as quick access to spare parts, makes it safe for you to own a Umesläp. We have the most common spare parts for all year models of Umesläp! In addition, our trailers have extensive warranties.
Many customers have said over the years that it feels safe to buy a Umesläp. It's likely our heritage from the North that ensures that sense of security.
Development, upgrade and expansion
Of course, Umesläp must maintain its position as a leading company when it comes to lightweight trailers and trucks for horse transport. Constant development and upgrading of our models is part of our business concept.
Our products must continue to be as user-friendly as possible. Therefore, we can never settle, but work on with weight, simplicity and design. We are responsive to our customers and their needs and closely follow what is happening in our area.
Today, we mainly operate in the Nordic region. The goal is for our products to roll on the roads throughout Europe and, by extension, also in other parts of the world.
our history
The leading horse transport company
In 1959, Mandor Viklund started a village forge in Bygdsiljum, which, like most businesses at the time, dealt with a little of everything. Among other things, it functioned as a farrier, a blacksmith's workshop and a manufacturer of wagons for transporting horses and cows. Pretty soon they started with the transport undercarriage for caravans, cabins and trailers of various types and in 1973 the self-designed horse transport Umeåsläpet was introduced.
The brothers Per and Ulf Viklund took over the company after their father Mandor in 1991 and thus started the big investment in horse transport. In 1993 we started the development of an aluminum trailer, to reduce the weight and at the same time increase the quality. Consideration for the environment was also an important factor. In 1998 we were able to proudly launch our first lightweight aluminum trailer, and since then we have worked on continuous improvements and developed many new models.
The third generation of Viklunds entered the company in 2004 when Jonathan Viklund started.
In 2022, the Viklund family chose to sell the family business, they then chose to sell the company to No Plan B. A locally owned investment company that above all buys and develops companies in the Skellefteå region. With NPB as the new owner, the goal is to continue to be a leader in the development of safe and environmentally friendly horse transport in the premium segment.
In 2005, the newspapers Hästmagasinet and Teknikens värld did a big test with different horse transports and named Umesläp as the winner. We had by far the best handling thanks to the rigid aluminum chassis combined with our cooperating bogie axles.
But Umesläp doesn't just have trailers – we also have high-quality trucks. In 2011, we launched the Ume Light-1 truck, our new bestseller, which also received Design Västerbotten's design award in 2011.
We have always placed great importance on service and spare parts stock and are proud to see our trailers from the 80s still plying the roads. If you buy a new model from Umesläp, you know that you are getting the very latest in comfort, safety and quality - and also significantly lighter than the equivalent trailer from another manufacturer. And the fact that the second-hand value of a Umesläp is really good doesn't make matters any worse.
The horse's comfort and safety have always been the starting point when we developed our trailers. The idea behind our horse transports is very reminiscent of Norrland during the summer: light, quiet, good environment and plenty of space. We have had the horse in focus since 1959.
